The Blend of Sensuality and Flowers

Who was Georgia O’Keeffe?

Considered the mother of modern art during a time where men dominated the art world, Georgia O’keefe is known for her radical femisnit paintings of  sensual “flowers.” Her abstract paintings of landscapes and flowers have made her the most famous American  female painter. She is mostly known for incorporating anatomy of the female body into her paintings. Her flowers have become the epitome of a battle field for opposing interpretations.

During the 1970s, feminists used her art as a way to demonstrate and urge to empower women and their bodies in the art world. O’Keeffe’s floers were metaphorical representations of the real female body-not the one traditionally painted by men.

Here are some of my favortie paintings:

Red Canna, 1924

Georgia O’Keeffe, Jimson  Weed/White Flower No. 1 (1932)

Gray Line with Black, Blue and Yellow, 1923
